What is the statue(?) thing that is sticking up mate? Not the Washington Monument, I know that one, the smaller one, that sort of looks like a sparkplug?

    I think my favourite one is the bare tree with the sun shining through it, with a close second being the quote about progress.

      Hello there! Thanks for sticking around after all these years. Can’t promise I’ll be any more prolific than I have been recently. My motivation for this stuff comes in drips and drabs.

      But to answer your question, the statue you mentioned is apparently a gift from Japan to the US upon signing a treaty in the 1850s. It’s actually listed on Google Maps as “Japanese Pagoda” so I was expecting something a bit larger but D.C certainly has some interesting things tucked away.
